Fixing A Slow Computer Without Registry Repair

September 25th, 2009

Keeping your computer running fast is more simple than some web sites might make out a lot of this web sites are set up to persuade you that the way to speed up your computer is to fix windows registry errors and although this is certainly a valid way to speed things up, before you spend any money on registry repair software ( and if you do get some you do need to spend some cash as the free ones often have viruses). Try doing the following, empty the PC of software you no longer need, these application all though they might seem harmless can have a real effect on the speed of your computer. After you have got rid of those games you used to play and all the free rubbish you have installed that came with magazines. You need to run the hard drive optimizing tool which you can access by right clicking on your hard drive icon. After this has worked its magic you should move on to the disc defragmenter that you can access in the same way. You are given the chance to run a report on your hard drive first using this toll tells you how fragmented your hard disk is. It’s worth doing this, as defragmentation can take several hours and if you don’t need to do it you should save your time. Once you have been through the steps listed you ought to check your systems try which is horizontally opposite the start button to see if there are any icons you don’t normally see, there can be updates waiting here which can slow things down alot. Sometimes just letting these updates happen will speed things up a lot. If you have tried all these things and your computer is still running slowly you probably do need to fix registry errors.

Get Your Computers Speed Back

September 18th, 2009

I recently spent a lot of time researching what was required to build a new computer from scratch. Why would I do this you may wonder? Well the primary reason for me beginning my research was because I was becoming increasingly frustrated by the fact every computer I buy seems to run incredibly well when I first buy it and then slowly decline over the time I own it until I become so frustrated with it I either bin it or pass it on to more patient people. The idea behind this was that if I built the computer from scratch it would be a lot easier for me to upgrade it when it went through the slow down all my computer seem to. I began this task by buying a couple of books on PC construction and some magazines with reviews of PC component in. I read fast so I started to get through the literature at a quick pace. This allowed me to quickly develop a sound understanding of how computers work and what makes them quick and slow. I had started to mentally decide the spec of my the new PC I was going to build when I noticed the last chapter of one of the books I had bought was all about how to make existing computers run better, i decided to read it.

I was surprised by some of the ideas suggested in there but before I get to the more surprising points let me take you through some of the more routine stuff. Point one, defragment your hard rive this is very simple but you may have to wait a while for your computer to do it. Second point, uninstall software which runs on your computer that you do not need. Now on to the more surprising points the first of which concerns the background image you use on your desktop if you pick something simple it apparently makes your computer run quick, by simple I mean with less colours. The last point and the point that really made my PC Faster is that of repairing windows registry errors. When you fix windows registry errors you are likely to see a big performance improvement , I did.

Six of the Major Causes and Solutions for a Slow Running PC

September 14th, 2009

There’s nothing more frustrating than when you’re trying to get something simple done, like check your email or visit Twitter, and it seems to be taking longer than ever to get the PC fired up and programs running.

Not only is it a waste of time but also electricity…let alone the sheer frustration that makes us more impatient each night that we sit gazing at our PC screens almost forgetting what brought us here.

Whichever way you look at it, a slow PC is no fun…and even more of an issue when you use your PC for work purposes which, let’s face it, counts for a large percentage of us.

Luckily, there are a lot of fixes that can be done to accelerate the speed of your pc. Some work more effectively than others, but here’s a top 6 list of things you can do to get your PC back up and running at lightning fast speed once more…

#6. Defragment Your Hard Drive

PCs have this nasty habit of scattering files across the hard drive, particularly when new programs are installed. Over time, these files get lost or your PC takes longer and longer to find them when doing tasks like running software or starting up /closing down. This task will put everything back in its place and give your PC a break from the hunting. This can also free up disc space, which boosts memory capacity and the ability for your PC to “think faster”.

#5. Scan Your Hard Disk

PCs get damaged when not shut down properly. When this happens, a scan comes in useful to check for errors and make any repairs possible.

#4. Scan for Viruses

Viruses inside your PC are always a common culprit for crashing/slowing down various programs on your computer…and sometimes affect everything from internet to email, Paint to media players. There are plenty of antivirus programs out there and you should never be online without one running in the back ground. If you do have one, check it is up to date and run a scan from its control panel just to check for viruses.

#3. Uninstall Unneeded Programs

Visit your control panel and go to “add or remove programs”. Locate any programs that you rarely use and will likely never use again, and get rid of them. This function will also show you how much disk space they are hogging up and that alone may surprise you. You could be slowing your PC down drastically simply having redundant programs lying on your C drive.

#2. Stop Programs from starting on Windows boot up

More and more software developers sneakily code their programs to start up when you boot up Windows. This is usually an option that can be turned off inside the specific software control panel responsible…so if you have lots of unwanted programs starting up when you turn your PC on, they can changed not to do so, giving your PC more speed during launch.

#1. Repair your registry

One of the major reasons for your computer slowing down is the messing up of your windows registry.

The registry is basically a huge memory bank of system data about your PC, from files to system settings, display options and everything in-between.

Notes are dumped in the registry every time a setting is changed, or when software is installed or removed.

If your browser window takes ages to open, or it takes your favorite software program longer to load than it does to cook an evening meal, then you’re likely suffering from a beaten up old registry.

This can even happen to relatively new PCs, so don’t rule this out if your new machine is crashing, freezing, or taking ages to do anything at all.

So, if you haven’t checked your computer registry, then make this your #1 priority! A word of warning however – even the smallest error in messing with your registry can cause a complete meltdown of your computer.

That’s why software programs have been specifically designed (and have become hugely popular) to scan and repair your corrupt registry for you.

Runtime Errors – How to Get Rid of Them

August 6th, 2009

In most cases, people are not aware of what is really happening when a runtime error happens while they are using their computers. The most common manifestation of this type of error is usually in the form of a message box. This message box informs you that a runtime error has just happened and beside it, there is a code displayed. Those who have experienced having this error have surely noticed that right before the message box is displayed the computer becomes slower than usual. When the user immediately closes the window, the operating system will prompt your computer to reboot. Since there are different reasons why runtime errors happen, it is already given that there are also different methods to fix the problem.

The first possible cause of such error is that a problem might have happened with the Terminate and Stay Resident program. If you feel that this were the cause of the error that just occurred, you can just open the Task Manager window so that you can simply end the programs not responding. This can be done by pressing ‘ctrl+alt+del’, and when the window of the Task Manager already appeared, click on the programs not responding and then press the ‘End Task’ button. Another reason why runtime errors occur is because sometimes, the software itself has problems. If you want to know if this is actually the reason for the errors, you can visit the website of the developer of the software and then download all the necessary updates for your program. If even after you have made all the necessary updates and you still cannot run the program properly, you can just choose to remove the program.

The most common type of reason why this kind of error happens is because of harmful applications like computer viruses and other questionable processes entering your computer. Because these malicious programs have the capacity to change the performance of a certain program, they can easily cause runtime errors. The easiest way to avoid being infested with viruses is to equip your system with a reliable security application. But remember that installing an application is not really enough because you should also make sure that it is updated with the latest features so that it can protect your system efficiently. When you are already sure that your security application is up-to-date, you can scan your system for the harmful applications in your system. This usually solves the problem for most people since viruses are really a common occurrence to a person’s computer system.

Runtime errors really cause computer users too much headache because they delay the activities that users need to accomplish with the help of their computer. But there is really nothing to worry about as long as you are aware of the different causes and their corresponding solutions. The next time your computer encounters a runtime error, hopefully you will be able to successfully make your computer function properly again and to prevent spending money unnecessarily.

Why Your high Speed Internet may still be slow

July 11th, 2009

One of the quiestions I get aksed by my clients all the time is.  Why their internet speeds are so slow even though they have a high speed internet  connection.Your issue is most likely one of two things, your computer is outdated and does not have the power needed to chache the web pages fast enough or you really just don't have that high of an internet connection.

In most cases it is the latter. If your computer only has 25^MB or 512MB of ram then right htere is a big bottle neck for you.  They just don’t have enough ram to do it.If the memory installed in your computer is under 1G and under 2 Gig in Vista then that can very easliy be part of the issue you are having.  View this speed up my computer  site for more details on installing memory and other such ideas you can do.

In some cases those you use a DSL service may find that at certain times of the day the internet connection is slow.  If you notice fast speeds at different times of the day and then all the sudden around the same time each day your computer just slows done on the web then it is very likely that too many people are on.  You should double check to make sure an anti-virus scan is not scheduled to go on at that time.  This will ensure the issue is not on your end.

There are a few other thigns to consider.  You might also be infected with a virus that is causing all the issues.  In most cases when you are infected you will know it by all the pop-ups.for the most part computers that are slow online have always been slow online.  If all the sudden your high speed internet always seems to be very slow and you notice a few more system errors then normal then you will want to run a full deep scan of your computer to ensure you are not infected.  We do recommend this fake antivirus removal  site.  It really is a cool place to check out for the latest threats and removal guides.  these guys know their stuff.

Why is my personal computer running so very slow?

July 10th, 2009

Your first few days spent with your new computer started so incredibly well. It used to reboot so fast. But now it’s not quite the same! Programs take ages to run. You often question yourself Why is my computer running slow ? You are tempted to buy a new laptop but this is definitely not the right answer. Apart from the additional expenditure, there is no real reason to do this and you can save your cash.

Thankfully there is a solution for this problem. I had the same problem and penned a blog to describe it named http://www.whyismycomputerrunningslow.org This website goes into detail about my terrible experiences with my slow laptop and explains how I solved the issues simply and inexpensively. It’s definitely worth a try.

There are many steps that can be taken to speed up your desktop computer. A common cause of a slow laptop is limited disc space. It’s possible to easily find more disk space by deleting temporary files. Another way would be to run a registry cleaner program. These are now cheap and are very effective.

You should try is to run a defragger on the computer. This might help to speed it up.

After having a desktop computer for a long time you will have installed loads of software that you do not need. These programs could be deleted using Control Panel Add/Remove programs.

Another reason for a very slow laptop is the presence of adware running on your computer. The best way to remove these is to run an anti-malware program and run it. Lots of users found this to work well.

Some people discovered that by quickly removing the contents of their recycle bin, it made things run much faster.

Let’s sum up then, the most popular solution I have found is to get your hands on a registry cleaner and let it loose on your desktop computer. This can be carried out quickly and cheaply.

How to Stop your PC Running Slowly

June 16th, 2009

Why is my computer running slow and what can I do about it? Isn’t that the question we have all asked ourselves at one point or another during our life? Our brand new spanking machine (or so we thought) has turned from a speed freak to a sludge machine. Well, there are many reasons why any computer could be losing the cutting edge speed it was designed for and here I will tell you several reasons why.

Dreaded spyware and adware. You have to realize that there are people out there that want to infiltrate your machine for their financial gain and they will employ a number of methods to achive this. Spyware and adware are running rampant on the internet and they install billboards and tracking software on your PC that you do not know about. Not only are these an invasion of your cyberspace integrity, it is also a main culprit of computer slowdowns. A good adware and anti spyware program will do you wonders.

Fragmented files and folders are a huge reasons why we grow old waiting for a single program to load. It is the cause of stress, high blood pressure and charred remains of monitors and desktop husks lying at the foot of a high rise building. Defragment. It is a very simple process to run. you can download de-fragmenting software from the web or just simply run the one that comes with Windows. Do it at least once a month, because the build-up of files and folders do get fragmented eventually and Windows has to painstakingly re-fragment everything just to launch even the most basic of programs.

Registry errors. The most overlooked problem in the world of computing. The registry is like the index to a book except it’s the index to your Windows operating system that tell Windows what programs are available to be run and all that kind of stuff. Once that gets corrupted, you are literally going to be handling a very slow machine. Registries a few months old will always contain null values, confused registry entries from bad installs, orphaned keys and traces left by viruses and spyware. A cluttered registry full of errors will more than likely slow your PC down to an unbearable level. A recognized registry cleaner will sort out your Windows registry to the point where you’ll think you’ve just gone out and bought anew PC.

Now imagine a combination of problems running hand in hand, choking your computer into a stutter. The best thing to do is to get your PC scanned for problems. You’ll find loads of scanning software online to help you identify potential problems. They are mostly free to run and you’ll be suprised at how many problems they find. Invest a little and stop your computer slowing down.

Learn how to enhance your computer skills

June 11th, 2009

In today’s modern world, computer training is considered to be of vital importance to almost everyone. Whether you’re getting into the work force, are on a higher-ranking management squad, or alternatively you’re a recent retired person, computer skills are a must. Around the world over, it’s not just about basic word processing and balancing your check book anymore, either. You have to understand computers well as they are so prevalent in the office and in the home. You may just want to know how to fix my slow computer or how to create a database in access. Either way, you need to get yourself trained up

Computer training can take place in a variety of methods, and can cover a variety of subjects. Let’s take a brief look at some of the options out there that are available to the novice, the average user, and even the self-proclaimed ‘expert’ computer user. It is always useful to keep your self up to date and sometimes attending a computer training class may be really helpful.

It has to be said that the old fashioned means of improving your computer skills was to attend a live class. Across the world, high school children are being skilled up in computers. In fact, it starts much earlier today in developed countries like the United Stated, Australia and the United Kingdom. Many colleges now run computer courses, but in the main these are aimed at adults who have been exposed to some basic use of computers.

A different style of computer training might be a correspendence course. These type of courses have also had their heyday, in which they were very popular as well. Distance learning of this type allowed the student to learn at their own pace, and at their own location. While the attraction of distance studying is still a top request for those attempting to learn about electronic computers, there are a couplet of extra methods that lend themselves to a more proactive approach.

Online computer training is emerging today as a force to be reckoned within educational circles. Not only is computer training taking place online, training for just about anything else can be done online as well! Nowadays, you can even undertake a college degree course from home using their online training courses.

Another method to consider is computer training using electronic means such as video or software programms. This arena was unknown in the beginning of the quest for computer knowledge (as was the online training), largely because the computers of the past did not possess enough power to run such programs. You don’t have to be online any more to get this sort of training – DVDs and offline software is available, which make an internet connection less imporant.

In conclusion, it goes without saying that computer training is an invaluable service that needs to be on the ‘to do list’ of anyone who is serious about communicating or being productive in our modern society. There are an unlimited variety of paths to have this education, and some individuals even prefer to instruct themselves based on specific subjects of interest and their ability to conduct research.

Becoming annoyed with my computer

April 25th, 2009

Like most people I have at some points become frustrated with my computer. Until very recently though, the problem was getting to the point of being ridiculous. The computer was so slow it was driving me mad and it was always crashing. In fact if I were to compare my computer to how it was when I first got it, I would say it was 80% slower. In fact the computer had become so slow that it made me think of my of my old ZX spectrum in that I used to turn it on and go off and do something else while it loaded up.

Anyway having endured the problems with the computer for several months I finally snapped and decided that I was either going to fix the computer or buy a new one. With new computers being costly I knew I had to consider the idea of fixing my current computer. I began as most people probably would by searching the world wide web. Having searched the net and read lots of articles I put together a list of possible soultions. The first soultion was to de frag the computer hard drive. I did this but it had little effect. The next solution to the slow computer issue was to remove any viruses or spy ware that my be on the computer. I used some software called AVG which did make a diffrence to how the computer ran. The computer was still not as good as it had been though so I moved onto the final potential solution which was scanning the computer for registry errors. Having run a free registry check, the registry checker I used identified around about one hundred and twenty errors. It cost me thirty dollars for the software to fix the errors but it worked quickly and made a significant difference to the speed of my computer. I suppose the lesson is that if you are happy to put time into fixing your computer you can save yourslef a lot of cash.

How Important Is It to Clean Your PC’s Registry?

February 8th, 2009

It is generally agreed that with the newer Microsoft operating systems like Vista and XP, it is no longer necessary to run a registry cleaner.  Because these operating systems are based on Windows NT, invalid or corrupt registry keys should not adversely affect your computer’s performance.

Malware such as adware and spyware might affect your registry file. Even if you are using XP or Vista, removal of these malware programs might leave bad or corrupt registry keys that affect your PC’s speed and performance.

If your software is not running efficiently, it is worth your time to check out the registry.

Microsoft’s operating systems include a program that is called “regedit” that you can access from the “start/run” command.  The contents of your registry folder will be displayed when you access regedit.  Using the regedit program, you can identify the bad keys and remove them directly from the registry.

The non-technical PC user does not understand the meanings of the registry keys.  There are some registry cleaner programs available for no cost or for a small fee that will take the mystery out of the registry file by identifying any bad keys.  Depending on the program, the registry cleaner software will either delete the bad keys automatically or let you choose which invalid registry keys should be deleted.

Be cautious about downloading and installing free registry cleaners or antivirus programs.  Some of these free downloads include adware or other forms of malicious code that might cause trouble for you down the road.  If you cannot spare a few bucks and need a free registry cleaner, be sure to download your software from a trusted service like cNet that verifies that the freeware is free of spyware, adware, and trojans.

If your software programs are not running efficiently, visit the NotGuru blog’s computer tips section, where you will find a step-by-step tutorial on how to clean your registry.  Forget about taking notes while watching a video — The tutorial includes screenshots and text that you can print out for easy reference.  It also recommends trusted registry cleaner software.
