Goozex Hands On Review

November 13th, 2009

Where do gamers go?

The choices you have as a gamer are:

  1. Buy (Online, Ebay, used, Gamestop..)
  2. Rent (Gamefly, blockbuster…)
  3. Trade (Goozex, Switchplanet..)

Renting in the past at your brick and mortar rental place can easily set you back more then $5-$7 every week like Blockbuster. There have been other online rental game sites that charge a monthly fee like /month for one game out like Gamefly. Renting isn’t all together bad but playing videogames isn’t like watching movies. There is a considerable larger amount of time invested in videogames then in movies. Most movies range from 1.5 hours to epics of 6 hours. Where most videogames you could get a good feel for a game in 3 hours but most sports games and long role playing games could be played for more then 70 hours.

This is where Goozex steps in. Goozex allows the gamer to keep the game as long as you want but have the option to sell it too. There is only a $1 transaction fee if you request a game on their network. So basically you can trade in your older games and build up Goozex credit until you get enough for a newer title and just pay the $1 transaction fee. A shipping and handling is handled by sender and the buyer only pays . There is no monthly membership so you can stop at anytime or go at a slower pace. This is ideal in the sense that you could play the game until you are actually sick of it then send it in for credit. So you’re not rushed to get as many games played on the network because you can play at your own pace. Plus you OWN the game. From then on the game is yours, not a rental.

You only send games directly to the next member. There is no single central warehouse and the pricing of the credits of the system are in points (100pts = $5). The pricing of the game is determined by market demand, release date, initial cost of the game, and a couple other factors. Most xbox 360 titles will go for 800-1000 pts which translates to $40-$50. This isn’t bad for a used game. Some money can be saved buying used but there is still tax and travel time/cost. Goozex gives you free shipping to you with no tax charge. You also have an option to buy credits if you want but I wouldn’t recommend that unless you have no games to send in or nothing of yours is being requested. The game prices will fluctuate and you will see the price change in your history. I’ve had a couple games I requested and I can see that price increase/decrease. It doesn’t happen that much but some games change +/- 200pts depending on market demand.

So why use Goozex instead of a used videogame store or an auction site with games like Ebay? You just need $1 to pay for the transaction fee. Most people don’t like to continually shell out more money for a game and then feel like the games they bought are depreciating at a very fast rate. Selling your game for cash anywhere will not give you that much. Brick and mortar stores resell your games for a huge mark up. Selling online is tiresome. Goozex at least you get to trade in games you are done with and still get some value out of it as it will lead to other games you really want. There might be more difficulty in sending older sports titles as those don’t have much demand once their season is up like trying to sending in EA sports Madden 2005 will be a hard game to sell to someone on the network. Older games on ebay are a hassle to sell. On Goozex you will be able to list it and it will just stay there without having to pay insertion fees.

Each videogame is packed with information like reviews from Gamepro, some tips/trick, game description, and some even have instructions. I love being able to see the supply and demand of each game. This will let you know if you have a game people want or if you can possibly get a game on the network. Goozex determines who gets the game by matching up users. There is a waiting list that is generated and when you add a game you will see in what place you are waiting for that game. This is a fabulous idea as impatient gamers can tell if they should expect a game soon. You need to make a list for want and haves for your games. They will show you your place in line per game. Great place to build your wishlist. It is ideal to have a very large set of games you want now so you will have a very good chance of getting a game soon. I was requesting Crackdown for the Xbox 360 and I was 60th person in line. I got this game in 14 days. Just because you’re really deep in line doesn’t mean you won’t get the game soon. Newer games do get pushed out in the system fairly quickly. You have many options to what you want to trade in terms of instructions, case or just game. This is helpful as some gamers tend to lose instructions and/or cases. The value of the game doesn’t go down as the credits don’t reflect what is included. This is because the user requesting the game can have the option to request only full packaged games, games with instructions, or just the game itself. I have not had a problem with getting full packages as I’ve gotten over 49 games and I’ve sent out 54 in under 2 years of being there.

Why NOT to use

For this site to be a perfect 5 star site I would like to see:

1. More users (will there ever be enough?)
2. More old school games (nes, snes, saturn….)
3. is still not free. I’m a member of another site that has no transaction fees yet still protects the members.
4. Sneak peak video game trailers
5. More community interaction (user reviews, recommendations…)

All the above are small tweaks to the system that is already very functional. The main reason someone would NOT want to use this system is time and money. If you have the dough you would just buy it new down the street? Why wait? The main draw to the site is how much money you can save and the community there. Save money and also connect with other gamers. If your very impatient then new release games will have to be purchased. I’ve experienced about 1-2 month turn around time for new games. Why? You are placed on a Que. The order of the Que determines when you get the new game, but more importantly is how many are available? Most people will play a new release for a certain amount of time before listing their games. The wait times do get long. Say you want to play a game that takes a long time to beat. You gotta factor in that a player like me would take over 1 month to beat a game like that. More popular games of course like Madden will hit the system quicker but that is also a bad thing. If you hold a game too long it will depreciate in value just like on the streets. Trading for early on might be for 1000 points but in a couple months with the market being saturated it could be 500 points in no time losing half of it’s value. Not Goozex’s fault but some games just don’t move well.

Current Goozex Simultaneous Transaction on the Network as of Mar 11, 2009 = 4793

Would You Like To Install Linux Into Your PS3?

September 5th, 2009

Not only you can watch movies on your Blu-Ray disc player or DVD player but you can also watch movies on your PS3. You know, that little video game console from the world’s number one gizmo maker? Well, today, not only you can play video games on your video game console but you can even watch movies, browse the Internet and listen to music and what you need to do is just to install the Linux OS on your Play Station 3 and it’s a possibility. There is a book guide that will teach you how and where to get Linux for PS3 and once you have installed the software, you can literally do everything with it, the same things you can do with your PC or your home theater system.

At this time, only a few of the people have learned that they can install Linux on their PS3 and there are more things that anybody needs to know more on his favorite video game console other than playing video games and watching movies. With the Linux installed, you can practically do anything on your PS3 just like an ordinary PC unit. You can load images, edit them and you might even do a lot of spreadsheets and documents on your PS3. This is only possible when you get to do PS3 Linux installation. But the only problem is, how can you learn to do this?

As what have said earlier, there are book guides that are now spreading and are being promoted on the Internet and there are some people who have used some a book guide and have actually tried using it to install Linux OS on PS3 and they have succeeded. But they are emphasizing that in order to get the best book guide, find something that has a sort of PS3 Linux Yellow Dog system which will enable you to use your PS3 a whole lot more other than what is mentioned above.

Would You Like To Install Linux For PS3?

August 11th, 2009

Do you know that you can run any PC applications, edit and save your files, browse the Internet, play older games, play games from other console types with the use of emulators on your PlayStation 3? That’s right, you can do all of these things on your favorite PS3 and the first thing that you need to learn is how to install a Linux for PS3 without voiding the warranty, that is, if it’s still on warranty. Anyway, if you want to learn how to do this thing, all you need to do first is to find a sort of book guide that will let you learn the right way on how to install the OS of Linux to your Sony Playstation 3, either Ubuntu or Yellow Dog.

A lot of people in the past have already discovered how to install Linux on a PS3 but they didn’t came out successful and to make matters worst, they have voided the warranty of their favorite video game console and they can’t do anything about it except to have it repaired which cost them a whole lot of dough. Then, they suddenly give up on the idea concluding that there is no way you can install a Linux OS, any Linux OS on a PS3 but that’s what they think. They just didn’t discover yet how to make it the right way.

Now, they will be more than surprised to know that there really is a right way to do the PS3 Linux Install procedure and it has even been featured in a book guide that is now circulating anywhere and all over the Internet. This is the result of one guy who once failed to do the Linux installation on his PS3 but as what Thomas Alva Edison said, in the own words of this writer: “You need to make a thousand and one mistakes in order to perfect a light bulb” and this guy did but this time, it’s a Linux installation on a PS3.

Read How to Be Frugal with PS3 Purchase

May 2nd, 2009

Today being frugal is part of what most of the people are looking for. The same trend is very popular in the niche of video game consoles and, in particular, in the niche of PS3s (PlayStation 3 consoles).

In this article I would like to give a short overview of how to get cheap PlayStation 3 legally.

But first of all, let me explain why the notion of getting PlayStation 3 for cheap is possible. You see, the Sony giant who is creating these wonderful video game consoles needs to make money, otherwise this branch of business will go down the drain.

That is why Sony understands that they need to be encouraging and proactive on the recession-bumped market.

Due to this, they are doing 2 things:

– make the prices for PlayStation 3 really affordable to the mass audience;

– give a big field of incentives for the vendors, so that these vendors have enough financial tools to persuade the purchaser to buy the console.

And this is where you – and the one who is looking for the cheap PlayStation 3 console – can get a real advantage on seeking for the bargains.

What are the typical ways to getting a good price for PS3?

First of all, think about famous online auctions. They are not the leader in terms of giving you the cheapest price. But their price still should be much better than what you are getting in the offline stores. Just make sure that the online vendor on the auction has good reputation, because this is where the crooks from time to time are cheating the buyers.

Look for the vouchers online. As mentioned above the vendors have enough financial tools in their hands to give great incentives. One of the incentives is a voucher. One great voucher can save you very nice lump sum of money on the purchase of PS3.

More frugal tips are published on the blog, quoted and hyperlinked in this post.

Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony's PS3

April 24th, 2009

The PlayStation 3 (or PS3) is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is the successor to the PlayStation 2. It is PS3 vs Xbox 360 as the PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft’s Xbox 360. It forms an important part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. A major feature that distinguishes the PlayStation 3 from its predecessors is its unified online gaming service, the PlayStation Network, which contrasts with Sony’s former policy of relying on game developers for online play. The PS3 was also the first Blu-ray 2.0-compliant Blu-ray player on the market. The PlayStation 3 was first released on November 11, 2006 in Japan, November 17, 2006 in North America, and March 23, 2007 in Europe and Oceania. Two SKUs were available at launch: a basic model with a 20 GB hard drive (HDD) and a premium model with a 60 GB hard drive and several additional features.

The Xbox 360, the successor to the Xbox, is the second video game console produced by Microsoft. Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii are its competers, as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. A prominent feature of the Xbox 360 is its integrated Xbox Live service. It allows players to compete online and download arcade games, game demos, trailers, TV shows, and movies. An Xbox support manual explains many Xbox features. They are Windows Media Center multimedia capabilities, mandatory support of high definition in all games and game downloads from its online marketplace. It also includes the ability to watch HD DVD movies with an add-on drive. The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005. The detailed launch and game information were divulged at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). The console sold out completely upon release in all regions except in Japan. As of January 5, 2009, 28 million units have been sold worldwide, according to Microsoft. The “Pro”, the “Elite” and the “Arcade” are the currently available versions, each with its own selection of access.

The Xbox360 problems are many in number and quite common. Many issues can be identified by a series of red lights flashing on the face of the console. These are the three flashing red lights or the Red Ring of Death. Other issues are discs becoming scratched and “bricking” of consoles due to dashboard updates. Many articles have appeared in the media portraying the Xbox 360’s relatively high failure rates. When a Microsoft Xbox 360 console experiences a “general hardware” or “core digital” failure, the warning signs include freeze-ups, with the screen having strange, spontaneous graphical problems, such as checkerboard or pinstripe patterns, frozen and strange, static-like sound, and the console only responds to pressing the power button to turn it off. In newer consoles, there can be three lights flashing with a green light flashing in the center for power outages

Which Games to Look Out For This Year

March 10th, 2009

With so many big releases like Killzone 2, Halo Wars and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X already been released, there is a great deal of games yet to be release so I thought this would be an appropriate post. So, that said, here are some of the games that you should be looking forward to throughout the next coming months and the entire year really.

  • Residient Evil 5 is the first one really worth mentioning, however, I personally won’t be buying this game, I just find it stupid how you can’t move and shoot or reload and shoot, but that’s just my opinion. I know that when this one is release on March 13th, it will be a massive hit.
  • Crysis: Maximum Edition – This isn’t a new game, but a box set of all the games rolled into one, you get Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars (the multiplayer) and if you haven’t yet played any of them, that will be the perfect box set for you. The game is released on March 20th.
  • Singstar: Queen – March 20th.
  • Aliens Colonial Marines. Not much has been said or relesed about this one, but my hopes are high for it. Odd release dates though for it, March 27th for PC and then unconfirmed for PS3 and Xbox 360.
  • Batman: Arkam Asylum. As I am a Batman fan, I hope this is going to be a great game. By the looks of the trailer you have to fight your way around Arkam Asylum in very good graphics. It seems that this is having seperate release dates for the 360 and PS3, however, I am not convinced.
  • The Godfather 2 – 10/04
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. If you coulnd’t put down the first Chronicles of Riddick game, then you should love this one. with voices of Vin Diesel and still with a bit of FPS and hand combat involved, it should be a good game. Set for release on April 24th.
  • Fuel – I have only seen a few screenshots for this one, and it looks alot like the PS3 game, Motorstorm. Hopefully, it’s going to be a great racing game.
  • X Men Origins: Wolverine. This is obviously a movie game so who knows what it will be like, some are good, yet some are bad, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
  • Terminator Salvation – 22/05
  • Prototype – A strange one, you play as a genetically modified person who now has super powers, might be good. Set for release in June 2009
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction – This game has been in development for a long long time so it really carries alot of expectations but lets hope it will be released when they say this time, June 2009.
  • The Sims 3 – Although alot of people play the Sims games, I hate them, simply because I think they have milked it too much. The amount of expansions that have been released is insane, but I know people will really want it, so here it’s in the list.
  • Ghostbusters – Who ya gonna call? June 19th
  • Dirt 2 – 9/09
  • Tekken 6 – 25/09
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – This game was only announced recently but it will definitely be a massive hit, with the amount of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s sold and the amount of awards it picked up, this sequel will hopefully be even better.
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2

It looks like a pretty good upcoming year for games. My fingers are crossed that no game publishers or developers end up going bust before those games are released.

Playstation 3 – the best entertainment system for Christmas 2008

February 18th, 2009

The name Playstation has become synonymous with an all-round entertainment system in recent years. Sony’s megahit games console revolutionized the way games are played and digital files are enjoyed. If you’re after a complete gaming system that allows you to play a wide variety of games, watch movies and store your digital files, then the Playstation 3 is exactly what you need in your life. The Playstation 3 is the latest version of Sony’s iconic gaming system that combines all of this and more.

The Playstation 3 is the third generation of the groundbreaking Sony gaming system, and was designed to build on the highly advanced technology of the first two incarnations. The Playstation 3 came to market in the United States in the Autumn of 2006 and quickly sold out in stores across the world. In the first 24 hours of being onsale, the system sold nearly 100,000 units.

There’s a Playstation 3 to fit every gamer’s needs. Playstation 3 is available with a variety of memory capacities. The 20GB contains the lowest memory capacity. The memory capacity then increases to 40GB, 60 GB, 80 GB, all the way up to 160 GB. Some accessories that come standard with each system are controllers, USB cables and connection cords. You can even watch movies by using your Playstation 3 as a movie player: it also works as a Blu-Ray disc player. Instead of purchasing an expensive Blu-Ray player, you can simply use your Playstation 3.

Like previous versions of the console, Playstation 3 comes with the option to buy additional accessories that depend on your own interests. If you’d like to use your Playstation 3 as an all-in multimedia system, feel free. You can purchase a TV tuner, digital recorder and other add-ons designed for use exclusively with your Playstation 3 unit.

If you want to use your Playstation 3 just for gaming, then there is certainly a massive range of games to choose from. The Playstation 3 has its own versions of loads of very popular games, including modern day classics such as Halo, Guitar Hero and even Grand Theft Auto. Playstation 3 has already earned its place in the video games pantheon, and quite rightly so. With such versatility, the possibilities are nigh on endless.

Cheap Playstation 3

Tips On How To Find A Cheap PlayStation 3

The Sony PlayStation 3 has been available to American buyers since late 2006 and it has certainly extracted a lot of positive response from buyers, who think nothing about waiting in line outside stores hoping to be lucky enough to find a PS3 in stock. As you may expect, the demand for the PlayStation 3 far exceeded the supply therefore trying to find a reasonably priced PlayStation 3, is not easy, and chances are that you will end up having to pay quite a steep price for whichever PS3 becomes available to you.

Places to Look for a Cheap PlayStation 3

Since the retail pricing of the PS3 has increased so rapidly in the past few years, it is rare to be able to find a PlayStation 3 at a good price, at least not in retail stores. Other options to purchase one would be at any number of the online sites, local newspapers in the classified section, magazines and by finding individuals selling PS3s.

It is best to be prepared and expect to spend a good deal of time and effort to find a PlayStation 3 at a good price, certainly there is much more involved than just filling out the paper work for a pre-order list. No doubt, at one time it was best to pre-order the PS3 since it gave you a good chance of at least being able to buy one at the advertised price. This allowed you to reserve a console, which was important because they were limited to one per household but before you could reserve one you had to make a down payment.

Unfortunately, many people were not able to take advantage of the pre-registration process, while others were not in a position to make the down payment required during preordering a console. This obviously meant that they had to look for a better means of obtaining a cheap PlayStation 3, which in turn led to people forming long lines outside of retail stores in hopes to be among the first to enter, because it was common knowledge there was a limited amount of PS3s in stock.

Soon it became evident that some people were buying up extra PlayStation 3 consoles not for themselves or as a gift, but with the main intent of selling them on eBay or other online auction sites. What that meant was that if you were willing to try hard enough you would still find it possible to get hold of a cheap PlayStation 3, provided you were also adept at making winning bids and were good at negotiating favorable deals.

Craigslist is another good option in helping you to find a decent priced PlayStation 3, because the sellers will often work with you to give you the option of purchasing one without having to pay a ridiculous amount. To get the best price you must be willing to face the challenges and be successful against the competition. Still at the same time the competition itself can be a lot of fun. Don’t let your eagerness to find a PlayStation 3 at a good price be something that over steps your good judgment, because if you put your guard down of the traps set by unlawful sellers you could end up in a bad situation.

In addition, never exceed your budget when purchasing a PlayStation 3. If you feel that the price is more than you can afford to spend on a PlayStation 3, then simply pass the offer by and keep on looking.
