Why Are Indstrial PCs Unique From Typical PCs

October 12th, 2011

No matter the brand or kind of industrial PC, it more than likely has got the traditional design philosophy which is prevalent to virtually all devices. An industrial PC is intended to deliver a controlled environment for electronics, and as a result, it needs to be able to stand up to various diverse temperatures as well as other situations.

Due to this, almost any industrial pc will have a far more heavy-duty design when compared with its office counterpart. It generally will have various mount options, so it will have a wall mount and a panel mount.

Given that it needs to endure various temperatures, the design of an industrial PC will almost always have extra cooling features which facilitate air to filter through. These cooling methods may also have different methods, such as liquid or conduction cooling.

An industrial PC should have more controls, features and support than a normal desktop computer. Things like expansion card retention are normal, and also the power supply is almost always of a higher grade. Even so, despite the fact that an industrial PC is more powerful than a regular computer, you will still have to consider hardware lifecycle management.

Hardware lifecycle management is whenever you upgrade your hardware so it still will provide you with the very best deal. While it’s tempting to keep employing the same hardware until it is no longer working, it is far better for you to replace it before it reaches this point. You need to use the most of the hardware’s life cycle, but you must also stay on top of technology in order to have the best chance for your company.

In order to establish the best hardware lifecycle management system for your personal business, you’ll need to consider the size of your organization, how many offices you’ve got and what your financial priorities are. Having a management system in place, you are able to prepare future budgets to be able to afford the new technology when you need it.

Hardware lifecycle management is really a tricky business, since there is no set approach which will always work. If you work for a large company that spans a variety of states, your management will need to be a lot more involved in order to help keep track of everything and evaluate your needs properly.

When you are considering hardware lifecycle management for an industrial PC or work laptop, understand that the notebook has to be replaced earlier because it normally takes a lot more of a beating (and there are so many frequent updates that your software will rapidly become outdated). Keep these things in mind, and you’re well on your way to managing your assets well.

Good Tips For How You Can Speed Up Your Desktop Computer

April 21st, 2011

Your desktop might have started to run very slowly lately and if so then you will be thinking that it is the right time for a tune up. There are a number of things that you can do which could speed up your desktop computer and as well as saving you some time, these things could also prolong the life of your computer. If you want to know how to speed up your desktop, then the tips below will help

- It is vital that you run a defrag on the hard drive of your computer; you should aim to do this regularly. The more data that is added to your hard drive the more things get messed up on it. When this happens, your computer needs to work much harder in order to find the data. So when you run the defrag, all the data on the hard drive gets organized so that it becomes easier for the computer to find things and means it does not have to work so hard. The defrag option is found under properties when you right click on the hard drive you want to run it on if you are using Windows.

- Viruses and malware are things that can affect computers and cause them to run slowly. Make sure that you are scanning your computer regularly with good anti-virus protection software. If you are using Windows make sure to get all the updates.

- You might need to do a registry repair because this could be the source of your computer running slowly. The registry is where a lot of the information about your computer is kept and if there are any problems with this it will confuse the computer.

So if you want to make your desktop run quicker again, then the tips above should help.

Ways To Get The Optimum Performance From Your Registry

January 6th, 2010

I’m sure you are aware that the registry is an integral part of your computer and is very important in the performance of it. From the operating speed and load times to errors and crashes, the registry needs to run smoothly to get the full benefit of your computer. See more at registry fixes.

The warning signs that there is something wrong and a sweep of your registry is required are pretty simple to spot. You may notice the speed of your computer gets gradually slower both in the initial load time to starting programs. You will often find that things crash either temporarily or completely and you need to reboot. Also you can get error messages appearing for programs that you have never had issue with before. Go to best registry cleaner.

We use computers so often these days that when you start to notice a problem it can be particularly stressful. There comes a time when you assume the worst and think it will die on you soon. But in a lot of situations this is not completely necessary.

By doing some occasional maintenance and running a quality cleaner over your PC occasionally you should get some good benefits. It is not difficult to do and the software will take care of the job for you.

So what are the main problems you will generally find in the registry?

One example is if you delete a file sometimes part of the data does not get completely removed. This unnecessary data takes up resources when your PC is try to process information and causes the slow down.

A further issue is after some data has been relocated but your computer does not know and attempts to read the data anyway.

Another problem like this is when your PC attempts to read data from a file but it is blank and so cannot perform the action. See registry repair advice.

You could have one or more of these issues. And if you do not use any form of registry software an initial check may give you a wide array of different issues of varying seriousness. Many of these will not be overly serious but will add to the issues you have over time.

Before you start downloading the first cleaner you can find you should understand that not all are of the same quality. Due to the importance of the registry to your PC you need to use one that has a good reputation and has been tested thoroughly.

The Personal Computer, Savior or Satan?

December 9th, 2009

I always intended to remain a Luddite when computers blazed onto the scene. I didn’t need them, not when I had so many pens, pencils and reams of writing paper at hand. Not in the slightest. However, being an elementary school classroom teacher meant a computer was going to be forced down my throat anyway. It was a Compaq. We were urged to take them home for the summer to become familiar with all the bells and whistles. I had not the slightest clue, but certainly realized how fast time flew in the pursuit of seeking a working knowledge of something so completely foreign to my feeble mind. Why, you could be scrambling your brains trying to have the slightest clue about what you were doing with a computer in the first place, and wham: it was 2 a.m. Unreal how hard I worked without gaining one lousy benefit.

Despite all my efforts to comply with this new era, I never used my unwanted computer back in 1994. Didn’t need it. But, my young son, also a student at my school at the time, went bonkers over this new alien contraption. He had no trouble acquiring all the tricks of the computer trade, its lingo, its shortcuts, and most of all, its all-consuming power and cure for boredom. It was not too long after his cyber-birth that I simply couldn’t resist the lure if this bizarro electronic box any longer. Well, once I realized all that it could do, and its untapped raw potential, I soon became an addict. Might as well have slammed that Internet cable right into one of my veins.

Many years later, and countless thousands of hours living with and being tethered to a computer, I do worry that it has taken me over, brains and all. I could never give it up, though it does often sound enticing. I love to write, and so this is the most perfect medium I’ve ever experienced to do just that. Yet, it’s also a dream machine. I have gotten involved with so many online businesses, most being scams or just completely worthless, with a couple of notable exceptions. It’s those rare unexpected diamonds that keep me holding out for the next big thing. Once you’ve tasted a hint of great financial success, even for the briefest period, you’re a goner. Then, there’s always my pipe dream that maybe one of my youtube blues tunes will catch Clapton’s ear. While I detest needing my daily, and often hourly Net fix, I yield to it like the drug addict yields to his demons. I don’t like it, but then I realize it’s like air: like it or hate it, ya gotta have it.

So, this is precisely where I am regarding the cyber landscape we’re all a part of now. While it levels the playing field for everyone to have a chance at something they never would have had before (do I really need to spell out all the things people are into these days, often the last people on Earth you would have ever expected to have a Facebook page?), it also means there are many millions, if not billions of folks shooting for that same cyber brass ring that I am.

So, let me answer my own question: the computer, savior or satan? My answer is a resounding “Yes!”

Learn more about the tiniest of data backup devices – Flash memories

September 18th, 2009

One different type of external hard disk for backup is very useful for backup, but it is not a hard drive in the way we use to know it. It is a hard drive that is quick yet quiet and without moving parts. It is an external hard drive that is easy to disconnect and carry around. It is what is called a flash memory device or you may have heard it with other names such as a memory stick, pen drive, SD card, or memory card. But the flash memory device is basically a unit memory unit that is capable of transfer rates of up to 18 GB per hour and has the benefit to be non-volatile, unsusceptible to magnetic interference, lightweight, and compact. It never the less has a very real security problem for some type of businesses. There are several options for making backup on a PC to recover data. You can backup on external hard drives, PC tape backup utility, DVD-RW and online. But memory flash is the most easy and convenient to use memory gadget there is.

There are flash memory drives in several different shapes but the device most in use is a memory clip with a cap that protect the USB port when it is not in use, which is so tiny to fit in a pocket. The stored data doesn’t vanish, when you disconnect the memory drive from the computer. The flash memory uses a chip technology based on further development of the old EEPROM chips technology. The BIOS firmware in PCs use EEPROM data chips when computers boot up.

Data transfer to the flash drive is slower than with the more common hard disk drives but much quicker than with DVD or CD. These tiny data devices are great for doing quick backups of folders on your laptop or PC at work so that you can transport the information to another PC because the “drive” usually just fits in your pocket.

The convenience the flash drives offer with its small size and mobility has a weakness. One drawback is that it is easy to forget about and if it remains inside a pocket in your clothes which has been washed in a washing machine, it’s lost (although, in some occasions if you dry your clothes, they have been known to still be working). The mini size makes it also easy to lose track of when you are searching for a change and need to pay for something.

A dilemma that many companies have is with security of information with these types of data devices. Just picture how easy it is to store sensitive personal data information on a flash memory device only to have it lost and in the possession of a wrong person. This is the reason that, many departments have policies prohibiting general employees from bringing in personal flash drives for use on company computers.

One extra plus from having flash devices is that support technicians are capable to store the operating system such as Windows XP on a flash drive. This memory drive then be kept as an extra startup drive for the Windows computer if the hard disk refuse to boot. An essential thing to investigate is that not every PC can use an USB data device as a startup device for the BIOS by setting it as a primary startup drive. Some PC’s lack the support for using the USB drive as a primary boot drive ,which you have to check out.

How Does One Use a Mouse

September 16th, 2009

A mouse is a very important device in computing. In definition, a mouse is a pointing device that is utilized in controlling the cursor movement on the monitor screen. One can click or drift the mouse to select files, actions and programs from icons and lists of names.

It is important for any computer user to learn to use a mouse if at all he or she wants to work effectively. If one has problems using a mouse, he or she may waste much time while using any computer program. Such a user may eventually get disappointed and get into conclusion that using a computer is very difficult.

Before one starts learning how to use a mouse, he or she should be conversant with the various mice that are in the market plus their distinct features. After becoming conversant with different features of a mouse, one should learn how to move the mouse freely. This will be fun as one views the cursor moving in all directions; from right to left, left to right, up and down, diagonally and even circular. The user must now be taught where to put the fingers. The mouse should be behind the heel and between the ring/small fingers and the thumb. It is the ring index finger that clicks on the left button.

Any good computer user must have the general idea on when to click on the right button and when to click on the left one. In addition, it is important for the user to know the uses of a single click and those of a double click. If a computer user has the intention of relocating some icons, he or she can just use left button to drag the cursor by dragging it to the location and then release it. In addition, a mouse is important in scrolling, copying, cutting, pasting, filling of forms and highlighting among others.

The All-In-One Desktop PC – Pros and Cons

June 22nd, 2009

What is the All-In-One
Some feel there is not much difference between the all-in-one computer and a traditional desktop computer. Differences are actually significant. The all-in-one PC combines the CPU and monitor and eliminates the need for cables, while with the traditional desktop everything is separate.

Many manufacturers make in the all-in-one model, including Dell computers, Apple, HP and more and it is becoming a popular computer model for those that want to save space and have a better layout in their home or office.

The traditional PC takes more space due to it’s size and parts. It takes up a lot more room. The user has to deal with the big CPU tower as well as the monitor. There is also the printer…if you’ve got one. The good thing about a traditional desktop computer is that there is plenty of room for expansion such as adding a hard drive or more memory.

Cons of the All-In-One Model
1. The all-in-one’s compact size leaves less room for expansion.

2. Another con is that they are smaller because they are made with notebook components.

Pros for All-In-One Computer
The all-in-one does offer some solid pros.

1. They provide for less clutter and save space due to the fact they do not use cables, except for the power, as traditional PC’s do.

2. The big pro for the all-in-one desktop is its ability to provide you with much more room because it eliminates the need for a CPU tower, monitor, and cables.

3. Because they use laptop components that save on energy and power they save money and are better for your wallet.

The choice is clearly upto the consumer. Traditional desktops are now being made smaller with smaller CPU towers and flat screen monitors there is still the cable factor.

The all-in-one is more efficient, but less upgradeable. If you are not a hardcore computer user I would recommend the all-in-one because it is more energy efficient and smaller. However, if you are an extreme gamer you will need to choose one of the 10 best gaming computers and if you are a major software user, or music and video lover, you should stick with the traditional desktop for upgradeability.
