The Benefit Of IT Support Explained In Short

November 15th, 2011

In this article I will be writing about the benefits of having an IT support service on hand should anything go wrong with your company’s IT. I am the owner of a rather small business – we have eight employees, including myself. Over the recent years our business has become ever more reliant on e-mail, the fax, the internet – including broadband – as well as our ability to connect each employee within an in-house computer nework.

I would have to admit that each of our members of staff are hardly what I would call experts in IT and therefore when something used to go wrong we were very much stuck! Around two years ago I decided to enrol the help of an IT support London company. This has probably been one of the best decisions that I have ever made, as I will explain in the next paragraph.

Ever since signing the contract with the IT company we have seemingly had more problems than ever. But when something goes amiss they are very good as they come round to see us at a drop of a hat. They even came to look at, and fix, our photocopier a couple of weeks ago – very impressive. It really is a huge piece of mind thing – knowing that they are they whenever we need them – and as I say, we certainly have needed them! As an example about six months ago we were unable to send and receive e-mails. Now on average each employee will receive around twenty e-mails per day therefore you can see the issue with this. But within a couple of hours our London IT support had solved the problem.

If you have a small business and if you do not already have an IT support service in place then I certainly would recommend it to you.

How quickly does your IT support respond?

December 15th, 2009

Working with computers can be great for your businesses productivity, the speed and versatility of emails and being able to produce reports and spreadsheets on a computer is unmatched. The benefit of having a network to work from is that multiple members of staff can access a document easily without having to rely on people sending the file on to you.

Whilst computers and networks have helped improve the efficiency of modern business they can suffer from faults or problems that can slow down your work rate and can even render some tasks impossible until the problem is resolved. This is where getting your computers and network covered by a good IT support service will prove beneficial.

The responsiveness and how quickly they are able to deal with your problem depend on a number of factors. These factors can be important when it comes to choosing which company to go with. The speed of which they can deal with your problem is key to the smooth running of your business. This applies from when they answer the phone or email all the way to checking that everything is running properly after the problem has been fixed.

One of the key factors in their responsiveness is the time taken to log a problem, if your IT support company only have one phone line or are regularly out of the office and busy then your call may not be answered and you’ll have to leave a message which could take some time to be read. Your company should be able to know when a problem is a major issue and needs immediate repairs or attention.

The next factor that weighs heavily into who you should choose is how far away they are from your place of work; many companies have in house IT support which is the ideal situation for companies as they will have an excellent knowledge of the server configurations and network cabling to help them fix any problems quickly. You should aim to hire an IT service that will be able to send out an engineer in as short a time as possible.

Sometimes engineers can connect to your computer remotely to diagnose any minor problems but in many cases where your connection is down or the computer won’t start then you will need the engineer to come out and take a look at the machine in person.

Speeding up your Network

November 22nd, 2009

Ensuring you have an established, well worked network will improve the efficiency and capabilities of your company. Having a up to date, high quality cabling network will allow information within your company to be easily accessible to all that need it as well as having the security of a well looked after network that will be up and running whenever you need it.

Failing to incorporate a network system means information and data may become corrupt or damaged and your systems may running extremely slow or even fail. Businesses have many different areas to it with each department handling a different aspect of the company. In order for any business to succeed, all these areas need to be communicating and aspiring to the same goals and objectives. This is where having is a quality network comes into play.

Speed, capability and cost are 3 areas that any good network cabling system needs to have. You want all necessary information to be available to other areas of the company whenever needed and the structured networking system allows just that. You want to get the most out of your cabling system and its capabilities to ensure that your company can maximise its potential.

You will also want outstanding value for money as you do not want to be spending your hard earned profits on a system that may not be right for you or is not designed and handled to the required levels. With some companies, you can have your network designed specifically with your business in mind. This means you have a network that will suit your requirements that will allow you to operate the way you need to.

You will also be looking for the support from the company who sets up the network cabling . The IT support is as important as the network itself. As we all know, technology does not always go the way we want it to and things can go wrong. It is the speed and efficiency that this is handled with that makes all the difference as time is money and you will want to lose as little as possible before everything is up and running again.

In the competitive industry that many businesses find themselves in, we should all be looking to find that competitive advantage that gives us the edge. Network cabling can be the start to give us exactly that and you can find the best deals online.

Supporting Your IT Network

November 22nd, 2009

The number of businesses that are reliant on their internet connections for work is growing constantly with everyone realising and taking advantage of the possibilities that the World Wide Web presents. This places an even higher importance on the network support available to our companies as we can not afford to be offline for too long or we will be losing a considerable amount of profits.

IT support is a big business now thanks to the increase in online companies and companies with corporate websites (combined this makes up the majority of the UK industry). An IT support company will provide you with the peace of mind that if anything happened to your connection that could not be fixed over the phone they would be in your offices as soon as possible to rectify the problem and get you back online with minimal losses.

We all know internet connections can differ and sometime you may lose connection for a few minutes, this is something that is hard to do anything about. Most of the times it will happen because many people are trying to use the same server at the same time. This happens a lot with home broadband connections in the evening as this is when the majority of people will be surfing the internet. The same goes for some connections at work.

Some faults may only be very minor ones which may include problems such as someone not being able to print or someone not having access to a certain file, this maybe down to the network cabling. If this is the case a phone call to the IT support company may be sufficient as they can talk you through the problem. This will save you call out fees and shorten the timescale for fixing the problem. Remote control can be taken if needed as this is normally quicker than explaining what is needed over the phone to someone.

Of course, sometimes the problem will be bigger than that and will need immediate attention to avoid losses. In this case, your support company should be on site within hours as this is something like a loss of network or a crash of more than one computer which will seriously affect business (both existing and potential). When looking for IT support look at what they offer as part of the deal. Make sure that any problems that occur will be resolved as quickly as possible.

How your IT service’s uptime is vital to your business

November 16th, 2009

When it comes to modern business you’ll find that a lot of this will involve computers to some extent, whether it is one computer or as in most cases these days employees working from a computer each on a network. Computer networks are everywhere in business, they allow computers and their users to connect from across a building and even across the world.

This reliance on computers and networks though can be a problem if your network is not reliable. Reliability is a major factor in IT systems as if they are unreliable and are regularly experiencing problems then there is a good chance that your business will suffer as a result. A IT system that is unreliable could mean:
• slow network speeds or drop outs
• Data loss
• Lengthy changes (new connections, desk moves)
• Frequent issues and problems with your computer itself

One of the core requirements for your network and IT system is that it is working all the time, this is said to be a 100% uptime (i.e. when your service is running correctly) unfortunately no network uptime will always be at 100% as there will always be scheduled upgrades, power cuts and other issues that may compromise your network.

There are however many networks that have uptime percentages of 98% or even higher, these are the companies you want to use as they will have a better approach to their work and have your business and it’s smooth running at heart. When choosing an IT system provider you should ask about their reliability and any possible network up time statistics they have with their other clients.

You’ll ideally check with a few other companies not just the first one you come across, as well as reliability there is something else you should check. You want to hire an IT team who will be fairly local to you or have engineers who can respond to any emergency calls. If you have any immediate problems then you’ll want them sorting as soon as possible but if the engineer needs to travel a long distance then you could be waiting much longer than you would have to if you had chosen a team local to you.

So when choosing an IT company for your business make sure to check with multiple companies, find out their reliability and make sure you do your research before signing up with anyone.

When choosing an IT support company you should check out their reliability and the range of IT support services they supply. Some companies only do PCs whereas some will complete all necessary network cabling for you too.

Tips to keep your network running and avoid unnecessary support call outs

November 16th, 2009

Computers have become a part of our everyday lives, many people will have one at home and many jobs now require you to work from a computer also. It’s a fact of life that not all of us are as adept with technology as others, this usually means we’ll find ourselves stuck or think there is a problem that we cannot solve. Sometimes this will mean we’ll have to admit defeat and call up for IT support.

Obviously calling IT support when you have a problem is the best approach as that’s what they’re there for, to support you. But sometimes the problems we run across can be solved pretty quickly by ourselves and save calling out for support. These are just a few simple tests you can run to either fix the problem yourself or simply get a bit more information for the IT support technician to go off of.

Restarting your machine

Restarting your machine will normally be the first bit of advice any IT support technician will give you, it seems cliché and meaningless but you’d be surprised how many common freezes or crashes can be fixed by merely restarting your machine. Make sure you have backed up any work you were doing before hitting restart as not all programs will have auto-save features.

Backing up your work regularly

Making sure you back up your work frequently is a practice you should make a habit of. There are two ways to backup your work that are effective, the first is backing up to some sort of external media whether it’s a portable hard drive or on to CDs, the only disadvantage with this method is that you normally aren’t able to write to CDs again and portable hard drives can fail like the hard drive in your PC as well.

Backing up over your company network is the best option as your work will be stored on the company server which will have plenty of redundancy and backups to keep your work safe, also you can save your work as many times as you like to keep a recent copy.

Undo any recent changes

Sometimes installing new software can cause problems with your system so it’s worthwhile noting down any changes you’ve made; some companies do not allow users to install software for this exact reason. If you have installed anything recently, try uninstalling them to see if this fixes the problem. When calling your IT support department make sure to let them know any details or recent changes that may have led to the problem.

Sometimes computer problems can be fixed relatively quickly, these cases are normally where the user is able to give a lot of background information on their problem, this helps the IT support technician quickly diagnose the problem and fix your computer or cabling as soon as possible.

Accessorizing Computers, What Comes Out of the Box is a Really Just a Starter Kit

August 19th, 2009

Yesterday, we spent about three hours trying to convince a client of ours that brand new computers just don’t come equipped with the all things that most computers need in a PC. We tried to convince him that a fully functional computer is one that is personalized with specially selected hardware and software accessories – and that the computer purchased at the store doesn’t come with these things. Unfortunately, all of our convincing was to our avail. Our client insisted that he should never need more than what came with his boxed product and that we were just trying “bilk” more money out of him.

As computer consultants, it’s our job and mission to make sure our clients are 100% satisfied when they walk out our offices. But our job is unnecessarily made harder when people don’t take the time to learn about computer accessories and familiarize themselves with the limitations of store-bought computers. Hopefully by the time you finish reading this article, you’ll understand the lesson that we were trying to teach our client: “What comes out of the box is really just a starter kit.”

The typical computer package comes with a CPU unit, keyboard, mouse, and speaker set. That may be just fine for some, but most people require more than that especially in today’s “connected” society. Today’s users require full multimedia capabilities, a wide range of graphics tools, and accommodations for the various portables we now enjoy. These extras aren’t included with “what comes out of the box,” and the only way to get them is to accessorize.

To illustrate the importance of accessorizing, we like to use the “plain dough” analogy. Let’s say that a brand new computer is a batch of plain dough – waiting to be flavored and baked into something useful. If we want to use this dough to make a delicious batch of chocolate chip cookies, we would need to “accessorize” this dough with chocolate chips and a little brown sugar. If we want to use this dough into in a warm loaf of sesame seed bread on the other hand, we’d need to “accessorize” the dough with yeast and sesame seeds.

Computer Support: What to Ask Providers

July 9th, 2009

The right computer support can affect the success of your business. An organization that offers enough installation, maintenance and support services and one that can cater to your needs as you grow is important. This document proffers four items to mull about when hiring an IT company.

At the end of the article, we will provide contact information for a top computer support, IT Manager On Demand. It is recommended that you visit this site for resources on computer support australia.

Jot Down Your IT Needs

The first thing to do in selecting IT support is to check your present business needs. This entails research and should specify what you want your network support to cover. You should also contemplate the future technical needs of your business. Be sure to write down all the items that you want the IT service to provide your business. Having this list will make your selection easier. You can get the best Pc support information by visiting this website.

Company History

Next, inquire how many years the computer support firm has been serving clients. Go for providers with vast experience. How many clients do they have, in how many different industries? Next question to pose: IT help desk experience? This implies that they can handle any IT problems quickly and efficiently.

What About Training?

Ask IT companies too about their training and support policies. Your systems may not function properly if your staff does not know how to utilize them. Sure, a good help desk is crucial but so is having trained in-house staff. Your systems will probably need to be upgraded as your company grows so ask if the provider will give extra training then.

Capacity to Grow with Your

Another issue to mull over when selecting the right PC support company is if they can deal with your business growth. Preferably, the computer support you choose can take care of your projected needs. Ask whether they have dealt with growth issues with previous clients. Ask the provider if they will accomplish recurring checks to see if the systems in place in your business continue to address your requirements. Expansion planning means you don’t have to look for a new provider later.

Coming across good computer support is not as complicated at all if you know what inquiries to make. If you want to hire a company with a great track record for IT support, then check out IT Manager on Demand.
