i-phone is still doing very well

January 30th, 2010

The phone itself seems to be selling more by the hour but how is this happening? The thing is, the phone has taken years to develop which is why it sells so well, it has years of technology pushed inside it.

One of the things that attracted me to the product is the fact that it was a combination of a phone and an ipod. The App store can give you anything from football scores to games and Google Earth.

{Recently 02’s exclusive two year contract with Apple has run out and Vodaphone as well as Orange have both stepped in to snap up deals with them}. Next year these companies are going to be allowed to actually put the phone on sale. Would someone really hold back on getting the phone simply because 02 are the providers, not likely but now there is likely to be a price war? If a company has been really good to you before then chances are you will not change and switch to another.

There is one other thing that comes to mind when thinking of the iPhone and that is the costs. The cost of the phone itself isn’t cheap and can be even worse if it breaks and you do not have something like Gadget Insurance. The only issue is that insurance is costly. Everyone drops the phone at one stage and it could be that you drop yours on concrete and it smashes. Personally I have dropped mine about five times and it has managed to survive so it is possible not to have insurance although I would reccomend it.

Of course there are insurance policies available for a number of things from Sat Nav insurance as well as the obvious iPhone insurance. Insurance in the long run could benefit you as gadgets are very expensive to actually replace.

Terrible Gadgets

November 13th, 2009

The last decade has seen a huge move forwards in technology. This progression of technology has been no more apparent than in the home. Items like mobile phones, laptops and gaming systems have seen the greatest improvements. That said, with every good thing there comes bad, and there have been lots of gadgets over the years that have given technology a bad name.

Well now, Sheila’s Wheels has conducted a survey to find out which gadgets really are the worst gadgets of all time. Although it was a tough fight, with each one of the worst gadget contenders giving their all, the gadget that came out on top was the shower radio.

The sorry excuse for a gadget was awarded the crown of worst gadget of all time due to a number of factors. The first one being that they regularly broke because water would leak into the batteries. Other reasons included, not being loud enough to hear over the shower, poor reception, and finally, getting thrown around by showers users who have their eyes closed.

Other pointless gadgets that made it into the top ten worst gadgets of all time included the following:

  • Electric candles
  • Electric nail file
  • Soda stream
  • Teasmaid
  • Pancake maker
  • Fondue set
  • Electric fluff remover
  • Facial tanner
  • Egg slicer

Alongside the survey for the worst gadgets of all time also came the best gadgets of all time. The results from that were not too surprising. Television proved to be the most popular gadget, but it was a close call for second place between the telephone, computer and vacuum cleaner would you believe. The gadgets that came up top you will note, are those an actually enhance everyday life in quite dramatic ways. Fortunately, not all gadgets are terrible and the ones that aren’t can make great gifts. Items like digital photo frames and flying lanterns are great fun to have around the house. However, if you’re looking for gadgets that aid everyday life, maybe light alarm clocks would be better.

Laptop insurance certificate stays in the folder

October 26th, 2009

If you own a laptop then you are probably already aware of why your need laptop insurance and how to get your laptop insurance at the best rate.

But how do you avoid having to make a claim on your laptop insurance in the first place?

Save your laptop by following the given tips?

Here are some tips to help you avoid the loss, theft or damage.

Always start with a worse case scenario…

How are you going to work if your laptop computer is stolen or damaged?

It is necessary to back up everything you need?

back up your files by using the 2 main ways
1. Make sure you have plugged an external hard drive in your computer
2. Remote backup service in another building

Make sure you do both for maximum effect. Spend around £50 to get an external hard drive to use to backup on. Utilise softwares like second copy software to run the daily backup automatically. You can run com each day at your own time but night time is the best.

You can Google for “remote backup service” of try Mozy.Com required to run each day to backup your files costs under US a month.

Dead or gone, your laptop files can be quickly restored from your backup. Local drive restoring is quicker than over the internet.

It is necessary to have a copy of any software license key or codes. You will always require these to reinstall your softwares. Want to make the restore much easier copy your entire program files and my documents folder.

You should secure your sensitive data with a software like Roboform.

Now some tips to minimise the risk of laptop theft so you dont need to claim on your laptop insurance so.

The amount you travel with your laptop can be minimised if possible. Leave your laptop where ever you feel it would be safe.

If you must travel with it, do not use a laptop bag. They are a big sign to thieves that you own a laptop and are carrying it right now. To protect your laptop from knocks it is better to put it in a firm rucksack.

Travelling on friday with laptop? Avoid it as laptop thefts are more on this day, says statistics.

Please keep your ruck sack safe by programming your mind to keep the body in contact with the bag. Make sure that you put one foot through the bag strap to minimise the risk of it being snatched.

Follow these simple steps and you will eriously minimise the risk of laptop theft or damage – and also minimise the difficulties if you do ever need to claim on your laptop insurance.

i-phone is a huge success

October 13th, 2009

The phone itself seems to be selling more by the hour but how is this happening? Packed into that tiny phone is top of the range technology which is why it has done so well.

The iPhone is a phone and I-pod all mixed in together and that is really only the beginning, It also has internet access, Facebook, E-mail, and the now famous App store. The App store can give you anything from football scores to games and Google Earth.

{Recently 02’s exclusive two year contract with Apple has run out and Vodaphone as well as Orange have both stepped in to snap up deals with them}. They are both set to start selling the phone in the New Year. Would someone really hold back on getting the phone simply because 02 are the providers, not likely but now there is likely to be a price war? Although it is true to say that people will stick to a certain company if the company has been good to them.

There is one other thing that comes to mind when thinking of the iPhone and that is the costs. The cost of the phone itself isn’t cheap and can be even worse if it breaks and you do not have something like Gadget Insurance. The only issue is that insurance is costly. The thing is, everyone drops their phones at some stage, just what happens if it is not on a soft surface. Personally I have dropped mine about five times and it has managed to survive so it is possible not to have insurance although I would reccomend it.

Of course there are insurance policies available for a number of things from PDA insurance as well as the obvious iPhone insurance. However if you were to insure your gadget it could save you money in the long run.

Protect Yourself Against Gadget Failure With Insurance

August 11th, 2009

Technology is great there is no doubt about that. With new recent breakthroughs in the form of the new iPhone being able to recognise voice recognition to the new announcement that Microsofts Project Natal for the Xbox 360 is set to have full body motion sensing capabilities with no wires and nothing plugged into you in any way at all.

However, what happens when it breaks down or you drop it? Sometimes when you have to send your gadgets off for repair, it can cost more to repair it than it did to buy it initially. A lot of the time it is their fault for not making the product as good as it should have been to begin with. Despite the Xbox 360 being the best console to have in this current console generation, it’s been found to have had one major flaw. The three red rings. To any Xbox 360 owners, seeing the red rings is horrible because you basically have to hand over your wallet. The only way to avoid paying around 50 pound for a repair is if your console is in warranty.

It was very rare if one of your older consoles ever broke like the N64 or Playstation 1, but now we are not just seeing Xbox 360 failures, a large amount of PS3’s and Nintendo Wii’s are also being sent away to be fixed. It could be down to the fact that this year has seen a record boom in the sale of computer games but it is more likely to be that manufacturers are more interested in shifting units than making a full proof package like they used too.

There are solutions now to avoid you having to fork out the cash and it comes from gadget insurance. This can be purchased to cover up to five of any gadgets you can think of for just under 20 a month. The price may seem slightly high, but if you consider having to pay for just one gadget to be repaired each month, you would end up paying more. This is mainly due to the fact that if for instance you were to drop your iPhone it would cost you around 100 to repair. If you think about the money, paying 20 pound every month to insure 5 gadgets is a good price, rather than spending 100 pound every time you drop your iPhone. Also, for fixing items like a Nintendo Wii, they tend to charge you more money than you actually paid for the console to begin with.

You are not required to insure 5 items if you don’t want to, you can simply pay for Xbox 360 Insurance by itself. Unfortunately, a great deal of home emergency insurance policies won’t cover damage to your gadgets like iPods and consoles.

Could the mobile phone situation get any worse?

July 6th, 2009

A recent poll has show that British people are not addicted to drugs, women and other such things but thier mobile phones. Research has actually shown that a large portion of the nation a huge 88% of us will not leave the house without thier mobile phone. This just proving that without things like mobile phones the country would come to a stand still. This goes on to say that an insanely high amount of 53,658,000 phones are carried around in bags and pockets in the streets of the UK every single day.In truth Britain sends over 1 Billion texts a week putting us into the top 6 for texting in the world which is ridiculous considering Britain is such a tiny area of the world.

The poll went on to say that over anything else a mobile is the one thing we will always take with us even over a wallet or purse. Funnily enough the midlands saw the best/worst result depending on how you look at things with a massive 98% of people saying they carried it with them every single day.
The question to ask is why? The answer is not difficult at all. The amount of things a mobile phone can now do is astronomical ranging from a simple text or call to checking the bank details online or even getting insurance quotes. Phones are becoming more and more advanced by the year with some having either MP3 within the phone itself or in the case of the I-Phone an actual I-pod included within the phone! As well as this you can now watch television as well as your favourite film all from the touch of a button on the phone as well as look at quotes from different car insurance firms!

Of course it does mean that muggings have risen simply because there are more phones out there to take as well as the really important question are we becoming too dependent on technology? It wasn’t like this 30 years ago and it seems to be that younger generations are becoming increasingly lazier.

If technology is your thing then why not look for gadget insurance to make sure your favourite new gadget is protected against anything and everything!
