The Best Accessories For Your IPad

September 17th, 2011

If you have an iPad you will probably be impressed by the number of applications you can download from the iTunes store. As well as these software apps that you download you will also find a few accessories that can help you get the most from the device. The following are just some of the great accessories that can be bought for the iPad.

  • A skin or cover to protect it. You need this to put over the screen of your iPad so that it won’t get scratched. Another reason for using a skin is so that your iPad won’t gather marks or dust. Although a number of people feel that it is unnecessary to have a protective cover for the screen, it is one way of having peace of mind.

  • A case to carry it in. This is another accessory that you can buy to give more protection to your iPad. Try to keep the device in here all the time when you are not using it. That way you will be less likely to damage it.

  • An iPad stand. If you will be using your iPad to look at photos or watch movies then you may want to have a stand for it. There are a number of different models available on the market but they all do the same job.

  • A keyboard. The keyboard on the iPad is quite small and it can be a little bit difficult to use as anyone who already has one of these devices will know. The thing to do to avoid this issue is to attach an external keyboard. The best option is the Bluetooth keyboard because you don’t have any cables going to the device and this gives you a lot more freedom.

  • A pair of external speakers are also well worth investing in. The sound from the iPad isn’t that great but speakers will rectify this.

R4i are items found in a lot of things in today’s era. An RD card can give you an excellent illustration of a memory card. Another thing currently in use these days is the ps3 jailbreak.

The History Of Vacuum Cleaners

August 23rd, 2011

The vacuum cleaner is something that most of us will now take for granted. This device saves a lot of time and effort, but it is not something we think about too much. This is actually a real pity because you would probably find the history of the vacuum cleaner to be very interesting. Many people will assume that the vacuum cleaner is a gadget that came out during the late twentieth century but it has been around for longer than that. In fact the first ever vacuum cleaner became available all the way back in 1860.

The accolade of inventor of the vacuum cleaner is given to Daniel Hess. The machine created by Hess picked up dirt by using a bellows mechanism. Although those of us who use a vacuum cleaner today would find it very hard to use the gadget created by Hess, it was considered in its day to be a modern marvel. Eight years after Hess’s model, Ives W. McGaffey created something a bit more advanced. This one used a crank mechanism to produce a whirlwind effect that could pick up dirt and dust. The first vacuum cleaner that didn’t involve a lot of physical effort was built in 1898 by John S. Thurman. It was powered by gasoline so probably caused a bit of a stink in the home.

The more modern vacuum cleaner came into being in 1901. This is when H. Cecil Booth created a more practical motorized machine. He was then responsible for the creation of the first electrical model that is what our machines today are still based on. We saw the first portable vacuum cleaner created in 1907 by James Murray Spangler. In 1908 the Hoover Company was formed and this was the beginning of the success story for the vacuum cleaner. Hoover became the most successful vacuum cleaner manufacturer in the world. They were so successful in fact that many people will still refer to all types of vacuum cleaner as Hoover.

R4 are employed in a great many products nowadays. An RD card happens to be a great illustration of this. Another thing currently in use these days is the ps3 jailbreak.

The 2 Most Useless Gadgets Ever

August 10th, 2011

Gadgets by their very nature have been designed to make our lives easier and in all fairness they have in the most part. There are people around today that would not be alive if gadgets like distress beacons hadn’t alerted the coast guard to their peril. We also have gadgets like valves that regulate our hearts and there are many people still alive today because of these. So you would wonder why some manufacturers spend so much money on gadgets that really are trying to solve problems that we don’t even know we have until they point them out?

Well here are just a few that have begged the question ‘What were they thinking?’ when they took their patent application to their patent attorney.

Mini Disc Players were not around long enough for us to even determine whether they would have become popular. Although we didn’t know that we wanted to reduce the size of our personal electronic devices, this was the aim of these devices. The main problem with these mini disc players was the fact that they did not solve the problems that we did have with our personal CD players which was the fact that they would shake as we walked; they also couldn’t survive when they were faced with the MP3 player which came out soon after the mini disc player. This really became an expensive ornament for many people.

Soda Stream was the fad of the moment for kids in the eighties whose parents would rather see their kids make a complete mess than pay for a bottle of fizzy drink. The idea was that you could make a your own fizzy drink which of course was nothing more than a novelty at the height of its popularity. This suffered due to the expense and aggravation that making a fizzy drink at home caused.

R4i are available in a great number of products nowadays. An RD card can give you an excellent illustration of a memory card. Yet another thing that you will find widely available is the ps3 jailbreak.

How Navigational Aids Have Developed

January 9th, 2010

Almost every area of modern technology is moving forwards at an unbelievable rate, but some areas seem to have a little more pace than others. These are namely the areas of personal entertainment and home-computing, both of which have seen a large rise in demand and have responded with incredible developments and reductions in cost. Another area that has come on leaps and bounds is navigational technology. Here are 3 of the most prominent advances in the last few years.

Sat Nav
. Portable car navigation aids cannot be thought of as new any more, but they are being reinvented all the time and are better than ever. They are much quicker at identifying current locations and calculating routes, which makes them a lot more useful. They have also become a lot more user friendly, with better interfaces and bigger touch screen. You can even get them built into phones now, making them a favourite of cheats on orienteering team building days.

Mini Cell Phone Generation

January 6th, 2010

Cell (mobile) phones have been on a serious diet since their conception well over a decade ago. They once resembled hard-back books, and now you can find phones smaller than a pack of chewing gum. However, as people began to demand more of their phones, such as wanting them to include cameras and MP3 players for example, phones started getting bigger again. Handsets such as the iphone and other ’smart’ phones did have improved styling, but are considerably larger than many of the previous generation handsets. That said, cell phones could soon be shrinking yet again.

As mobile Internet connectivity becomes increasing more widespread and the speeds continue to increase almost daily, there is a dwindling need to store all your applications and files on the phone itself. Instead of the phone hosting all the information, your games, files and applications can be fed in from somewhere else when required. Phones don’t have to be multi functional devices all the time then, they just have to show whichever information and do whichever job is being requested of them at any one time.

A central hub will be needed and this can be either be located in your home or with your service provider. On the central hub you will have all the software and individual files that you need for your phone to function and you will be able to access these using your handset at any time. You will still need a certain amount of hardware in the phone, such as a camera and other electrical components, but you will be able to save huge amounts of space where memory, processors and mini ac fans would normally be found. This means then that phones could be not much bigger than cable ties and you could even wear them as accessories such on a necklace or as a wrist-band. The phone would be liberated from its conventional state and could take any shape you desire.

New Amazon Kindle Due In 2010?

December 23rd, 2009

2009 has been a big year for e-book readers – mainly due to the efforts of Amazon. Amazon launched the Kindle 2 in February 2009, which was an enhanced and updated version of the original Kindle which was launched in November 2007.

Amazon followed up with the Kindle DX in June of 2009, which was a large format version of the Kindle 2. It was quite deliberately aimed at readers of magazines, newspapers and academic textbooks – and it caused quite a commotion.

The possibilities in the academic world – from interactive textbooks to constantly updated texts, and not forgetting the opportunity afforded to academic bodies to save a good deal of money – attracted a good deal of attention. As well as signing agreements with a number of colleges and universities, Amazon got a lot of free publicity from political entities such as the New Democratic Leadership Council and even Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his role as Governor of California.

Thanks to Amazon’s foresight and innovation – helped by all the free publicity – the Kindle reader has now become Amazon’s top selling product. At the moment, the Kindle has an astonishing 60% share of the U.S. e-book reader market and recently started shipping an international version. The Kindle has, to all intents and purposes, become synonymous with e-book readers.

It’s probably worth remembering that Amazon were, in fact, a somewhat tardy entrant to the e-book reader market. The original dedicated e-book reader is generally held to be the Franklin eBookman, which was launched in 1999 – ten years ago. Sony’s PRS reader was launched in 2007, in advance of the launch of the original Kindle.

Amazon may not have been first to launch – but by combining clever marketing with technical innovation and addressing customer needs, Amazon has secured its current number one position. The large choice of books available for the Kindle on Amazon’s website and the wireless connectivity (with no monthly fee) were every bit as crucial to the Kindle’s success as were the technical aspects of the device.

However, now that Amazon has – practically single handed – established the market, it seems that there are a whole bunch of other manufacturers who all want their share. Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Barnes and Noble, iRex, Plastic Logic, Asus – the list goes on – all have their own readers ready for launch or in the final stages of development.

Amazon’s current unique selling point – wireless connectivity – will become the norm and Barnes and Noble will allow users of their new Nook reader the choice of over 1,000,000 titles. The new Sony Daily Edition reader will allow users to borrow books on loan from participating lending libraries. It seems likely that an industry standard e-book format will be agreed sometime next year, which will give users the freedom to lend e-books to friends and family or transfer them to other readers if they want.

At the moment, many industry watchers are casting their eye over the line up of new readers and trying to identify the Kindle Killer. However, Amazon has been very astute thus far and they won’t give up their top position without a fight. It took them less than eighteen months after the release of the original Kindle to launch the next generation Kindle 2. The DX was launched just a few months later. Amazon almost certainly has big plans for the further development of their e-book readers. Is it conceivable that the Kindle 4 will be the true Kindle killer and that could we see this launch sometime in 2010?

Top 10 Technological Leaps in Watchmaking

December 15th, 2009

The spring powered clock – The spring powered clock was invented in Nuremberg, Germany in the early 1500s.This early breakthrough paved the way for the size of clocks at the time to be reduced so much in size that they could become a watch.

The tourbillon – The tourbillon is responsible for watches being able to keep time, despite changes in time. This was first produced by Louis Briguet in the early-mid 1700s.

Mass production – this was the big leap forward that brought the price of watches down, making them affordable to the man on the street.

Automatic winding – After overcoming issues with inaccuracy and the risk of damage from water and dust rolex introduced the shockproof silent automatic winding watch.

The first electronic wristwatch – this was introduced in 1957 where a battery replaced the mainspring.  This paved the way for a number of stylistic innovations.

Quartz powered timekeeping – by 1969, movement sensor based timekeeping technology had become small enough to power a watch.Seiko manufactured the first one and decided to name it the Astron.Impressively it kept accuracy to within 10 seconds per year.

The first digital display watch – this was produce in 1972 and was an expensive 18-carat gold watch. It wasnt long until much cheaper versions were produced.

The GPS wristwatch – the first GPS watch was manufactured by casio in 1999 to keep up with the growing technology industry.

Bluetooth – this is still a comparatively recent development, arriving as it did in 2006 with Seiko being the leader of the pack.Since that time other watchmakers have joined in with their own versions.
