How To Fix Computer Errors

December 11th, 2009

All computers are start to run less efficiently over time, and problems and errors can start to accumulate. Fortunately though, there are a few routine tasks that can be carried out to prevent and fix the various common computer problems and errors.

To begin to fix computer errors, run a disk defragmenter, which will condense your files and make the repair process simpler. Windows includes a free disk fragmenter, which you can find in your Control Panel – this one is fine to use and it is unnecessary to download another one.

Spyware and virus programs are the causes of most computer errors. Viruses add harmful codes and files on the computer system, resulting in poor computer performance. Spyware programs copy harmful programs on to the computer that can steal and transmit confidential data. To fix computer errors as results of spyware and viruses, use up-to-date anti-spyware and anti-virus applications.

Damaged memory can lead to a variety of computer problems, such as system crashes, the blue screen of death, system hangs, sudden restarts and crashing software. To fix computer errors related to memory, you will need to use specialist software programs that help to resolve RAM and memory related problems. These tools are easy to use, and can greatly enhance the computer systems performance.

EXE, DLL and Driver files errors often occur as a result of invalid and corrupt registry entries. These files make entries in the computer registry in order to operate. If the registry is damaged, it will significantly slow down the computer system and, as a result, generate random and unwanted errors.

To resolve computer errors within your registry, you will need to remove unused files from it and make sure the ones in use are up-to-date. You can do that manually, but it is a complex task, therefore, you should use a registry cleaner tool. Such tools will take care of all of your registry needs in just a few clicks.

If you are still unsure as to how to solve any of these problems, then you can search the internet for additional information about how to fix computer errors. There are plenty of websites that concentrate on computer basics and troubleshooting. However, make sure that you only take advice from reliable, secure and trusted sites.

Easy Methods To Fix Computer Errors

October 29th, 2009

Computers have added a lot of positive changes to our lives and yet, they have also provided a lot of aggravation and headache. Upgrades and routine maintenance are part of keeping a computer running strong with new programs. Here are some simple things you can do in order to help prevent issues and fix computer errors.

The System Registry

Your computer stores settings and options for the Windows operating system in a database referred to as the system registry. If the word database is new to you, that is just fine, knowing how a database works is not important. This database is modified whenever a change happens with your computer.

You may be wondering what information is kept in the registry. The easiest answer is that everything is kept there. When you add or remove an application (we will get to the problem of removing programs in a minute), change account options, add or remove a user, modify system policies or change settings in the control panel Windows will store this data in the registry. The system registry often contains invalid or corrupt entries leading to problems, some files that are most regularly causing issues are library files (DLL’s), program files (EXE’s) and device driver files.

Your computer needs the registry to be in excellent shape in order for it to run its best. If the registry is unstable or damaged, it will dramatically slow down the system, and cause errors, frequently for no apparent reason. This is usually when people start to feel that annoyance that you may be familiar with.

Removing programs can regularly create issues in the registry simply because the Add/Remove programs does not always do a very good job. Sometimes, entries in the registry and even files are left behind. These “orphan” entries can lead to issues later on.

Fortunately there are a number of ways that you can reduce these issues. The first thing to do is to run the Disk Defragmenter program that comes with the Windows operating system. Files regularly get broken into smaller pieces as your computer installs programs, running a defragmentation program will reassemble the files. Although this does not directly effect the registry, it helps to increase the speed at which your computer can access the files on the hard drive making your computer a little faster and is a good start. It is not a bad idea to get into the habit of running this every week, you can even set it up to run automatically.

The next challenge is the registry itself. To fix computer errors related to the registry, you need to do regular registry scans so that all the unwanted information can be detected and removed. Although Windows comes with a registry editing program, trying to clean up the registry manually is an overwhelming task. Without previous experience with the system registry it is a good idea to leave it alone.

There is a way to fix registry errors that is painless and easy – the registry cleaning tool. There are several different applications out there to do this but in general they will complete various registry maintenance tasks such as removing duplicate files, deleting orphan entries, scanning and repairing many computer and registry errors as well as performing registry backup.

A lot of computer errors are caused by virus applications and spyware. Viruses add malicious code and files to the system which can not only affect its performance but also steal confidential information, and transmit it for malicious use. Antispyware and antivirus tools can be used to help remove these problems from your computer.

Windows Repair Software – A Must Have!

August 3rd, 2009

Windows repair software can save you from weeks of havoc when trying to fix your computer. Many people do not know the basics of how to keep their computer safe from spyware, malware, viruses and other security problems that can affect a computer. Luckily, with a windows software repair program, you can remove most of the unnecessary security risks and save your computer from turning into a piece of trash.

One of the best things that you can do for your computer is to install an anti-virus program. These programs are constantly scanning your computer to check for any potential trojans, viruses, or other problems that can occur with your computer software. Many times anti-virus programs include a live scanning feature which will detect problems as they come onto the computer. However, in other cases, you may need to schedule or run the scan yourself. Always run your computers anti-virus program at least once a week to check for any potential security risks.

An anti-spyware program can be your best friend. Spyware is one of the most common problems that will slow down your computer. Spyware may be logging your keystrokes as you are logging into your online bank account, or just recording which websites you are visiting while beaming the data back to a main computer. Spyware is usually easily removed, however, sometimes it is so deeply rooted in the registry files that you will need to have windows repair software in order to remove it. Usually spyware likes to hide in system folders, and may even resemble a process that is normally running. Make sure to pay close attention to any processes that look out of the ordinary in your windows task manager.

Malware and adware usually are a combined pair. Many hackers believe that they can make your life a living hell by installing all different types of adware on your computer. These programs will display ads for various programs and may change your internet explorer home page. While most of these programs are less harmful than any type of virus or spyware, some can becoming so annoying that they will require you to have to reload your computers operating system. Luckily, you can just use a windows repair software tool and have everything back to normal. Just like many other nasty problems with your computer, adware and malware can hide deep on your computer, even so deep as the registry and cause severe problems with the operating system!

While malware, adware, spyware and viruses all seem like a common occurrence, they are usually quite rare. In fact, on computers with programs that are proactively looking for these types of problems, they are almost never found. However, on computers of people who do not know or follow general computer safety practices, you may find hundreds of viruses and infections of spyware. Do not buy a cheap program that just sends you false hope. You need a program that will really fix your computers registry and problems, a proven registry cleaner!

How You Can Avoid These Common Computer Errors

Tips On Proper Computer Maintenance

Computer errors can pop up when least expected, they can cause the entire system to suddenly shut down, and they can inadvertently corrupt data to the point where it can’t be deciphered. Although they can’t always be avoided, it’s important to remember that computer errors can be corrected. It’s important to recorgnize the errors, what they mean, and how to avoid them in the first place.

Basically, computer errors are the result of a number of things that may or may not have anything to do with the way the computer is used. Whenever there’s a conflict among commands, they operate. Remember that computers essentially run off of a series of commands and it’s usually a smooth process. But when one command conflicts with another command – or when one command asks for a process or information that isn’t available, the computer returns results that aren’t useable. That’s an error.

A prime example of this kind of error is when users attempt to use software that isn’t applicable for their system. Almost all software accompanies a list of system requirements which dictates what a computer needs to have in order for the software to work properly. To minimize errors of this sort, always verify that your computer has the required components. Project management programs have specific operating system requirements like Widows XP in order to run properly. And while this program might install smoothly on a Windows 98 computer,it will result in all sorts of errors when it is started.

Insufficient memory will cause errors as well. That’s the reason software programs have minimum memory requirements. If a program need 14MB of memory to operate and it runs on a computer that has only 4MB, the result is a lot of errors or it will not run at all. The same goes for monitor color depth and resolution, and disk space. In these situations, problems occur the moment that a piece of software attempts to access the things (hardware, memory, space, resolution, etc.) that it can’t find.

Because some programs share common files, errors can also occur when these shared files are not up to date. For example, let’s say Program A is already installed on a computer and is working properly. Assume that the user of that computer downloads Program B and installs it. Program B uses a file that Program A installed much earlier, but when Program B is run, errors popup. Those errors are the result of Program B attempting to use an outdated (shared) file that was installed by Program A. Fixing that problem requires downloading an updated version of the shared file, and this is not easy to do.

Sometimes, errors occur because a system doesn’t have the required drivers or the drivers that are on the system are the incorrect version. Updating the computer on a regular basis would have avoided these errors. There is a section on Microsoft’s website that updates a computer for no charge automatically online to reduce errors like this. You need to keep your computer updated so that if you ever have to share a file, it will share a file that has also been updated by thousands of other computers like yours.

This article doesn’t even begin to cover the entire gamut of computer errors – but additional information regarding how to get help with a computer issue (including computer errors) can be found in our article titled, “Computer Help” no matter what the problem is.

How Bryan saved me from a slow computer

April 12th, 2009

I have of late been suffering due to a very slow and irritating computer in fact it has annoyed me so much I was bitching about it in a local bar. The man I was moaning to was Bryan a good friend of mine and total computer nerd. I discussed my computer problems with Bryan and asked his help picking a new computer. Bryan thought about what I had said and while fiddling with his ginger beard replied with “You wont need to get a new computer”. I reiterated to Bryan that I really did after all my computer was running very slowly and was annoying me to such an extent that I have genuinely considered destroying it with a house hold implement. In fact I was a little mad with Bryan for not recognizing my pain. Bryan did however go on to explain further and said “I believe you are suffering from Windows registry errors”. Although I am sure what Bryan said would make perfect sense to the average computer geek to me he might as well have been speaking Dutch. Not wanting to seem foolish I carried on as if I understood Bryan and said “Ah I see”. By this time Bryan had obviously noticed from the distant look in my eyes that I really had no idea what he was talking about. He took out a pen and paper and scribbled upon it the name of a web site fix-this-computer. He then went on to explain that I should visit this site and look under the Fix Windows Registry Errors section and from this I should select an option for a free registry scan which would identify and registry errors present on my computer and after this would give me the option to repair them. I took his advice and now my computer works a treat, cheers Bryan.
