Many governments have experienced civil war of one degree or another within the history of their nation, and indeed, the birth of many of the current nations in today’s political landscape were born out of the ashes of a civil war of one kind or another. This is why it is important to understand enough of the Spanish Civil War trivia in order to gain a better understanding of how that countries current state has been influenced by the events in their past.

Were you aware of the fact that the Spanish Civil War ran from July 17, 1936 all the way until April 1, 1939, and that it was in many ways a lead-in to many of the events which would transpire in the Second World War? A good example of this is the support that was given by certain countries to the different factions within the civil war. If you were to take the Spanish Civil War quiz, you would likely need to know that there were two sides, the Republicans, and the Nationalists, who would eventually succeed in the overthrow of the Second Spanish Republic. The Republicans were supported by the communist Soviet Union and Mexico, whereas the eventually victorious Nationalists would be supported by Nazi Germany and Italy.

There were extreme numbers of executions and terrible acts by both sides at war during the Spanish civil war. The Spanish Civil War trivia is almost always going to mention the Red Terror and the White Terror. If you don’t already know, those are the names for the waves of death which were carried out on both sides of the civil war. The Red Terror was the name for the acts carried out by the republicans, which was estimated to have claimed 38,000 lives, whereas the White Terror was the name for the executions and other atrocities carried about by Franco and the nationalists. These deaths are still under debate by current historians and are estimated at anywhere between 50,000 and 200,000 lives.

Many people were caught up in the executions carried out by the Nationalists in the course of the revolution. One of the most famous of these people was the famous Spanish Dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca, whose works such as The House of Bernarda Alba are among the most well known Spanish dramas ever produced. He was clearly an enemy of the regime as his works were banned by the government after his death.
